Support a Special Election

In response to the universal rejection of Blagojevich’s Senate appointment today, IL GOP Chairman Andy McKenna calls on Leaders of both parties to support a vote of the people should Burris’ Senate appointment get rejected

“Blagojevich Democrats in Illinois and national Democratic leaders like Harry Reid have no one to blame but themselves during this Constitutional crisis in our state. Blagojevich Democrats who run Illinois could have stripped Blagojevich of his appointment powers 14 days ago and gave those powers to the people but they refused to act. Today, I call on all leaders in Illinois and in Washington, Republican or Democrat, to pledge their support for a special election in the event that Roland Burris’ Senate appointment is rejected. The people of Illinois deserve to choose their next United States Senator. This decision should not be made by Blagojevich’s Lt. Govnernor nor should this decision take place in the smoked filled back rooms of Washington, Chicago or Springfield.”
