Romney Addresses Hispanic Republican Convention

Presidential Candidate Says Hispanics are "Quintessentially American”

WASHINGTON D.C. - Mitt Romney today spoke at the Republican National Hispanic Assembly’s (RNHA) prayer breakfast at the Palomar Hotel in Washington D.C. The event was the closing ceremony of the RNHA’s four day national convention and 33rd Anniversary dinner.

"If you say, name people who are hardworking, seek education, love God, love their families and value freedom, -- it's Hispanic-Americans, just like other Americans," said Mitt Romney.

The former Massachusetts Governor called Hispanics “quintessentially American” as he addressed issues of family values, immigration, faith, economy and the military.

“Governor Mitt Romney emphasized the values-based connection of the Republican Party and the Hispanic community. We are proud and honored to have him address our growing conservative Hispanic population,” said Danny Vargas, the newly elected RNHA Chairman for 2007 - 2009. “Governor Romney made it clear his campaign had the 'Welcome' sign up for all, striking the important impact Hispanics will have on this upcoming election.”

During his speech Mitt Romney talked about immigration, stating, "I want to make sure we continue an open door in immigration that welcomes people who come here with those kinds of values."

Reverend Sam Rodriguez, President of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), gave an inspirational message during the event.

The RNHA national convention is the only national meeting of Hispanic Republicans. The RNHA does endorse candidates but encourages Hispanics to educate themselves on the issues and positions held by the various candidates.

Romney softens up the Democrats and Fred Thompson. And is Romney the Republican front runner? WaPo.
