Color the Trib PC Pink

The Tribune's Clout St. disparagingly calls it red meat for Republicans but is a shrinking violet when describing terrorist detainees, some of whom have cut people's heads off and bitten Americans to death. I hardly think the usual political cynicism should color the issue. People in Illinois are legitimately concerned:

Sen. Bill Brady, a Bloomington Republican and candidate for governor, has asked Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan for an opinion on whether the governor has sole authority to allow the sale. Brady today criticized the Democratic Madigan for not yet issuing an opinion, saying "this thing is going fast and furious."

"There is an overarching issue, which is relocating international terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to Illinois," Brady said. "If nothing else, it deserves a public airing and debate within the legislature" so that lawmakers could put their positions on the record.

Brady said it would be better for the legislature to have a vote on the matter because of the far-reaching impact of the policy decision.

Because Democrats control the General Assembly and the governor's office, Brady said, he realized any legislation backing the plan by Obama, a former Democratic member of the Illinois Senate, has a strong chance of passing. But the debate is worthwhile because the detainees "are not just non-violent, they're violent offenders," he said.

Quinn and other Democrats say the governor can act without legislative approval.
Well, as one of my friends pointed out, if they're going to just be a rubber stamp why do we need them? Let's just vote them out!

As for the Tribune, I will quote my friend El Rider:
El Rider said...If they send al qaeda members to Illinois we can be assured that treatment issues will be brought forth by the ACLU and others, then we will likely see those battle field hardened terrorists in Federal Court in Downtown Chicago. During that time they will be housed in the Metropolitan Correction Center in the South Loop. When that happens I will remind my Democratic friends that: "Hey - I can see battle field hardened al qaeda terrorists from my office window!"
I kind of feel sorry for those poor Democrats because they are in for some very large heapings of intellectual abuse.
Maybe Mayor Daley will bulldoze the correctional center in the middle of the night. And I imagine a few Code Pinkos, and a few other strangers, will find their way to Thomson. Collateral damage.
