How much will the rest of us have to pay for bulking up our security not far away? What price peace of mind? Bringing terror home is not responsible policy.
Friedman statement:
Arie Friedman stands firm against transferring GITMO prisoners to Illinois
Highland Park, IL - Candidate for Congress in the 10th District and former Naval Officer Arie Friedman today strongly rebuked his fellow candidates, Bob Dold and Dick Green, for telling the Chicago Tribune that housing jihadists in Illinois was not a problem. "I don't fear that they're going to escape from a maximum security, a super-max facility. That's not my concern," said Dold. "The choice to move prisoners to Illinois would be 'a reasonable approach to due process'" according to Green. Stated Friedman: "I am stunned and disappointed that my fellow Republicans can't see the bulls eye that will be placed on Chicago and the northern suburbs if Al-Qaida suspects are housed in Illinois. Take into account the large Jewish community and abundance of synagogues in the area - this would be a no-brainer target for Al-Qaida."More from an earlier post, Scandal at Justice:
In an earlier statement Friedman expanded upon the issue: "Like Congressmen Manzullo and Kirk, I find it unacceptable for the federal government to bring these dangerous prisoners to our region. Additionally, I find it difficult to comprehend that our own governor would even consider the possibility that housing Gitmo prisoners in Illinois would represent a meaningful job creation opportunity. Bringing these enemy combatants to the region would not enhance our national interests or international standing. Rather, it would put the Thompson Correctional Center directly in the sights of terrorists the world over. Worse, the targeted communities would not be strictly limited to the immediate area around the prison. As far as the world is concerned, the Thompson prison is located in Chicagoland and all of us would be possible targets. Lastly, as a member of the Jewish community, I am surprised and disappointed that Governor Quinn does not understand that our synagogues and religious schools will be the specific targets of terrorists wanting to make an international statement. We do not need terrorists in the 10th District's backyard."
P.S. Malik Zulu Shabazz. In his own words, according to the ADL…a press conference in Morristown, New Jersey (July 3, 2003):
“If 3,000 people perished in the World Trade Center attacks and the Jewish population is 10 percent, you show me records of 300 Jewish people dying in the World Trade Center…We’re daring anyone to dispute its truth. They got their people out.”
Oh, and in other news--Revenge of the ‘Shoe Bomber’: The terrorist sues to resume his jihad from prison. The Obama administration caves in:Last May at the National Archives, President Barack Obama warned that “more mistakes would occur” if Congress continued to politicize terrorist detention policy and the closure of Guantanamo Bay. “[I]f we refuse to deal with those issues today,” he predicted, “then I guarantee you, they will be an albatross around our efforts to combat terrorism in the future.”
On June 17, at the Administrative Maximum (ADX) penitentiary in Florence, Colo., one of those albatrosses, inmate number 24079-038, began his day with a whole new range of possibilities. Eight days earlier, the U.S. Attorney’s office in Denver filed notice in federal court that the Special Administrative Measures (SAMs) which applied to that prisoner—Richard C. Reid, a.k.a. the “Shoe Bomber”—were being allowed to expire. SAMs are security directives, renewable yearly, issued by the attorney general when “there is a substantial risk that a prisoner’s communications, correspondence or contacts with persons could result in death or serious bodily injury” to others.
Reid was arrested in 2001 for attempting to blow up American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami with 197 passengers and crew on board. Why had Attorney General Eric Holder decided not to renew his security measures, kept in place since 2002?
According to court documents filed in a 2007 civil lawsuit against the government, Reid claimed that SAMs violated his First Amendment right of free speech and free exercise of religion.

Multiculti Concepts in Terror:In January, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Colorado issued a statement saying that conditions at supermax are “simply another form of torture” worse than Gitmo which “make a mockery of ‘innocent until proven guilty.’” Last month, the ACLU filed a civil lawsuit mirroring Reid’s religious rights claim on behalf of two terrorism inmates held at the Communications Management Unit inside a medium security prison in Terre Haute, Ind.P.S. How about Marion or Peoria? Or Chicago? Multiculti Concepts in Terror come to a neighborhood near you.
One of those inmates is Enaam Arnaout, a Syrian-born U.S. citizen serving a 10-year sentence for diverting Muslim charity money to militant Islamic groups in Bosnia and Chechnya. The other, Randall Royer, is serving 20 years for his role recruiting young Muslims in the “Virginia Jihad Network,” a group that used paintball games in 2000-2001 to train for holy war.

They were also accused of carrying identification showing they belonged to the radical Afghan guerrilla group, Hezb-e-Islami, or Party of Islam. Each was sentenced to have a foot and a hand cut off for the robbery, but the decision was later overturned. So now we get to deal with them in our U.S. system of justice. No Sharia law here yet, but stay tuned. Wouldn't want to be multiculturally insensitive.

More. Remember? If they send al qaeda members to Illinois we can be assured that treatment issues will be brought forth by the ACLU and others, then we will likely see those battle field hardened terrorists in Federal Court in Downtown Chicago. During that time they will be housed in the Metropolitan Correction Center in the South Loop. When that happens I will remind my Democratic friends that: "Hey - I can see battle field hardened al qaeda terrorists from my office window!"
I kind of feel sorry for those poor Democrats because they are in for some very large heapings of intellectual abuse.

"Vandals" Deface Three Chicago Synagogues
Sun Times:Vandals?Vandals spray-painted the words “Death to Israel’’ on two synagogues and a Jewish school early Saturday in three separate incidents police say could be linked and are being investigated as hate crimes.
In each case, the vandals — at times donning masks — used orange-colored paint, also shattering glass windows with bricks and rocks at two of the buildings.
Just some random act of violence? I think not.
UPDATE: Looting Starbucks in London. Why do they hate us?Why do they hide their faces? Are they ashamed? No, that would be too civilized.

Robert Dold is 100% for keeping the prisoners in Guatanamo and not transferring them to Illinois or onto America. His position is clearly stated in his responses to the Trib submitted a week ago, which copied below, and can be seen firsthand here:
http://elections.apps.chicagotribune.com/editorial/robert-dold/
To be clear, Robert Dold is unambiguously against transferring the prisoners to Illinois, and any statement to the contrary is misinformed.
"Q. Should the Guantanamo Bay detention facility be closed? If so, where should the detainees be transferred? Should the inmates be tried by military commissions or civilian courts?
A.
I do not believe that Guantanamo Bay should be closed. The United States spent $200 million on the facility and it should remain as a functioning detention center. The United States has corrected many of the initial issues associated with the Guantanamo Bay facility due to a number of rulings by U.S. courts. Detainees should be tried as expeditiously as possible by military commissions."
Very schlocky editing by the Tribune. Thanks for the clarification.
If you read the Trib article article and the candidates editorial questionnaires, you'd see that Dold doesn't approve of terrorists from Guantanamo coming to IL. In fact, he staunchly opposes it and believes Guantanamo should stay open.
