Durbin's Dishonor

Senator Dick Durbin claims to support our troops, but we have seen little evidence of it so far. Today, he and other Senate Democrats VOTED NO, refusing to condemn the MoveOn ad. Hillary voted no as well. Not surprisingly Obama was AWOL:
Statement of Purpose: To express the sense of the Senate that General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, deserves the full support of the Senate and strongly condemn personal attacks on the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all members of the United States Armed Forces.

Why is this disgraceful vote by Dick Durbin and his Democrat allies still a surprise? But it is. It is shocking that a leader of the Democrat party in the United States Senate sees nothing wrong with dishonoring our military leaders and troops who time after time lay their lives on the line for our freedom.

Who do you trust more?

Dick Durbin or David Petraeus?
General Petraeus was the General George C. Marshall Award winner as the top graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Class of 1983. He subsequently earned MPA and Ph.D. degrees in international relations from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and later served as an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the US Military Academy. He also completed a fellowship at Georgetown University.

Awards and decorations earned by General Petraeus include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Defense Superior Service Medal, four awards of the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the State Department Superior Honor Award, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, and the Gold Award of the Iraqi Order of the Date Palm.

He is a Master Parachutist and is Air Assault and Ranger qualified. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge and French, British, and German Jump Wings.

In 2005 he was recognized by the U.S. News and World Report as one of America’s 25 Best Leaders.
Senator Durbin has dishonored us. Shameful.

Dick Durbin is up for reelection in 2008. It is time to throw him ignominiously out of office. Support Steve Sauerberg. Give him your support today.

UPDATE: Statement from the Republican candidate for Senate, Dr. Steve Sauerberg:

Dick Durbin is one of only 25 Senators to Refuse to Vote to Condemn Outrageous Personal Attack Ad by Moveon.org

Steve Sauerberg, M.D. - "Dick Durbin has shamelessly chosen to defend his radical left-wing friends instead of standing up for our men and women in uniform."

(Western Springs, IL) - Today, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) was one of only 25 members of the Senate who refused to vote to condemn MoveOn.org for its' baseless personal attacks on General David Petraues. Moveon.org is the leading far left anti-war smear group, which came under fire from Democrats and Republicans for its full page ad in The New York Times attacking General Petraeus, the Commander of Multi-National Forces in Iraq. "This ad was so outrageous that 75 Senators - Democrats and Republicans - joined together to condemn it. Instead of joining this effort, Dick Durbin has shamelessly chosen to defend his radical left-wing friends instead of standing up for our men and women in uniform," said Steve Sauerberg, M.D., a Republican candidate for the United States Senate. "Today's vote by Senator Durbin is just the latest in a long line of votes that make it clear that Dick Durbin no longer represents the values of the people of Illinois."

Moveon.org's ad, "General Petraeus or General Betray Us," accused the General of "betraying" his country by manipulating the facts on the ground in Iraq to support the surge. The ad baselessly and shamelessly attacks General Petraues' credibility, accusing him of being a "military man constantly at war with the facts." Without a shred of evidence, the ad suggests that General Petraeus is "cooking the books" for the White House.

"How can Dick Durbin refuse to condemn these baseless personal attacks? When will Dick Durbin actually stand up to his left-wing special interest friends?" concluded Sauerberg. "I want the people of Illinois to know, and our courageous troops and their families to know, that when I am the Senator from Illinois, I will always put the interests of our brave men and women in uniform above the interests of the ultra-liberal forces of intolerance."
