During that decade, Durbin has become one of the most powerful members of Congress. In fact, these days, as majority whip, he's second-in-command of the Democrat-controlled Senate, practically top dog in a pretty tough pack. And he's a "watchdog". Ooh, a confrontation:
The White House might have been expecting Judge Michael Mukasey's confirmation process to be a walk in the park--until the day Mukasey met Durbin.Did Dick Durbin lift...the phone and...leak...to the press? Who knew Dick Durbin was such a Big Dog . I would have thought a liberal lapdog. Ah:
Durbin says his predecessor and friend, Sen. Paul Simon, once told him he didn't want to be in Senate leadership because he wanted freedom to be an independent. Durbin chose the other route. No kidding. Not in the running for statesman of the year, this year or any year. But skillful execution of rhetoric (we've seen this before) is top priority, and it's sooo hard for this dogged, uh committed pol:
It's no easy job these days, waging an attack on the war without hitting any tripwires that would infuriate voters. The importance of getting it right has never been greater for them. As they work to increase the size of the Democrats' majority next fall, so much depends on skillful execution of the rhetoric about national security between now and then.Yeah, even for people who have no failed record to run on. Durbin goes on to piously say:
A bigger majority would make it easier to stop talking about the things the party wants to reform and just act. Many see it as a chance to end the war--something that, despite months of talk, Democrats have failed at. They're still having trouble with that.
Having been there, having seen what those soldiers are going through, the thought that we are going to continue down this path really breaks my heart. Please, spare us the phony pathos. And yet he works to deny them funds for the supplies and equipment they need to do their jobs, holding them hostage to political posturing as they risk their lives to protect us.
Is it any wonder the Democrats are now the party dominated by the angry white male, The Stupid Party?
Purely reflexive. Ring their bell and Durbin and the pavlovian Dem pack chow down on Bush administration documents, do nothing on domestic issues, and deny funding to our troops.
So what excuse will the stupidly slavering Do Nothing Democrats give to the American people--some stray ate their homework?
