Hillary's Latino Edge

Dem identity politics, Latino-style, is all over the Chicago papers, in Barack's back yard. Tribune: "Clinton's Latino edge no accident." "Alvarez revels in upset." "Cook County surprise". Clarence Page, yesterday: "When the melting pot boils over:Ethnic patterns shape debate". Sun Times' columnist Mary Mitchell, "Can Obama, like Harold, get Latino lift?:Both 'element of racism' and lack of outreach blamed for Calif. loss".

Meanwhile Republicans will have their work cut out for them in November, as Dems are currently energized, outnumbering Republicans 2-1 statewide at the ballot box in this Illinois primary, also a trend across the country. Democrats also narrowly edged Republicans in the Chicago collar counties, which have traditionally been Republican but trended toward the Dems in the last election.

On the other hand, Republicans have a good and substantive message on taxes, spending cuts, economic growth, health care and national security. And with Governor Mitt Romney,(about to speak at CPAC) gentleman that he is, pulling out of the race today to unite the party, that will help as well. We'll see whether The Huckster is as gracious. The onus is on Sen. John McCain to respect and rally conservatives.

The battle will be for conservatives to inspire them to GOTV, and for independents to assess the inexperience and destructive dog-fight of identity politics that is the Democrat party of today.
