Conservative "Revelers"

Yes, conservatives are having a laugh a minute at the thought that underage girls are being illegally imported for sex, so implies The Swamp:

"I'm from one of those traditional law schools -- you know, first the trial, then the hanging,'' Durbin said in an appearance today on MSNBC's Morning Joe , noting that "three or four employees'' terminated have been accused of wrongdoing and they should be investigated and prosecuted.

That hanging has been underway for some time now at FOX News, its commentators reveling in the video of two young conservative activists who posed as a pimp and a prostitute and carried a video-camera into ACORN offices.

Could we ask, where's your outrage, MSM? And perhaps The Swamp should read the Tribune editorial page:

The debate may be tinged with partisanship. But the decision to cut off funding is just common sense.

We don't think anyone seriously believes that facilitating child prostitution is what ACORN is all about. But workers in at least three ACORN offices displayed an astonishing willingness to circumvent the law on behalf of "clients" who represented themselves as child traffickers and flesh peddlers. The voter registration irregularities can't be ignored.

Oh, wait a minute. Yes, they can: By Danny K. Davis, Jesse Jackson Jr., Bobby Rush, Jan Schakowsky, Dick Durbin and Roland Burris. Apparently, they just couldn't stomach acknowledging that Republicans are right on this.
An astonishing willingness. And how do we really know what ACORN facilitates?

It's not the first time ACORN employees have been involved in prostitution.

It's not the first time more than a few "rogue" employees have engaged in wrongdoing.

It's not the first time ACORN has called for a supposedly "independent" investigation:

The liberal political organizing group ACORN faced internal chaos and allegations of financial mismanagement and fraud long before two young conservatives embarrassed the group with undercover videos made at field offices in Washington and across the country.

Internal ACORN documents show an organization in turmoil as last year's presidential election approached, with a board torn over how to handle embezzlement by the founder's brother and growing concern that donor money and pension funds had been plundered in the insider scheme.

Minutes from a meeting ACORN held in Los Angeles last summer reveal a group then on the brink of financial collapse. "Currently owe over $800k to IRS," the minutes note. "Haven't paid medical bills of over $300k. We are essentially 'broke' nationally and lots of offices are struggling."

Some top ACORN officials tried to shield the scheme, which involved Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke. "Leadership has no faith in staff. Wade betrayed them," the minutes said.[snip]

In a June 2008 report to ACORN, Washington lawyer Elizabeth Kingsley, who conducted an independent review of the group's finances, expressed concern that inadequate documentation of money transfers between ACORN and an allied organization, Project Vote, would make it difficult for either group to respond effectively to questions about whether tax-deductible charitable contributions were used for political purposes. She also noted conflicts created when decision-makers at the tax-exempt entity had roles in political activities carried out by other groups.

"My question all along was, are we funding a liberal political agenda with taxpayer dollars without knowing it?" said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who co-sponsored last week's House legislation cutting off ACORN's federal funding and led the oversight committee investigation, whose findings were released in July. "By the end, it was clear to me, this organization can't assure anybody, including itself, that it won't use our money for partisan politics."

Who is really being partisan here? Who is abusing the public trust? We're not asking for a hanging, we're asking for a cut-off of public funding--and an investigation. As for Sen. Durbin, he shows an astonishing level of complacency about criminality and corruption. You might say he wallows in it. You might say he revels in it:

Hardy har har.
