Seven juveniles have been charged with mob action following a series of muggings carried out Saturday night by groups of attackers, including one that left a visitor from Michigan hospitalized with a broken jaw.This is really bad. No dance with your wife stuff.
In the first attack, a group of young people beat and robbed the 40-year-old man in the 500 block of North State Street just before 10 p.m. The victim, who was in Chicago on business, according to a relative, was treated for a broken jaw at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
The juveniles, ranging in age from 13 to 16...

interesting that there's so very little info available on the 3 from saturday and the one from last night (gold coast again) anywhere, along with whatever front page (what passes for it on the net) coverage there is, the 'comments' feature isn't even activated. that would be the tribune.
oh, and the essential descriptor 'BLACK' is omitted...tho there's a mug shot of a black kid arrested.
the sun-times has zero mention of anything having happened, proper for the traditionally recognized as chicago's 'communist' paper.
interesting that the story about (by now pretty effing commonplace) weekend killings in the city's black neighborhoods contains all the outraged comments over this flashmob activity.
is this the s-times' sensitivity to the crowd screaming 'racists! why all the coverage when something happens in THEIR neighborhoods and nuthin about OUR damn tragedies?!'
so burying these incidents dovetails conveniently into the mayor's dept of tourism not wanting a panicked exodus to ensue, well, so WHAT then.
this same thing happened last summer when lake shore drive was shut down 2 hours on a wkend evening - i heard it come up on the radio twice, small blurb in the paper next day...and then it vanished.
i hunted it down again like a month later.
this isn't a tourism thing, this isn't a racist thing, not by any stretch anymore - it IS about public safety.
whytf are they holding this back?
