Those Nail Bombing Ethical Constraints: UIC Faculty Considers Throwing in with Ayers

Because Bill Ayers is the kind of guy academics should go balls to the wall for.

Chicago Breaking News:

It is extremely rare for the board to comment on or vote against emeritus appointments.
Some UIC faculty members, writing on an internal faculty e-mail listserv, have expressed concerns that the board turned what should have been a routine academic decision into a personal one.

In a proposed resolution, highly-regarded professor Elliott Kaufman suggested that the Faculty Senate ask the board to reconsider its decision, one he said was a conflict-of-interest and "inappropriately influenced by personal and political comments."

He urged board members to "adhere to the ethical constraints that normally govern their meetings."

"Isn't this the new, squeaky-clean, highly-ethical board of trustees? What happened? It is worth airing the laundry here," said Kaufman, who retired last year after serving in numerous faculty leadership positions, in an interview with the Tribune.

"The chair had a conflict of interest and he put the other trustees in an impossible position," Kaufman said. "He drew a dotted line between the assassination of the Kennedy brothers and giving Bill Ayers emeritus status. The result is what we got and I just don't think it was a fair way to do it."

Well hell.

Bombs away...

...if we don't agree with you. Highly regarded notwithstanding.

ABC's The Blotter: 9/11 Mosque Continued To Produce Jihadis and that the Yemeni-American imam Anwar al Awlaki (see video) who inspired the Ft. Hood killer has is on the move as well.

And how interesting that the European bomb plot is described as similar to the Mumbai attack, where terrorists methodically slaughtered people. Did you know one of the planners for that plot was arrested in Chicago? And that he also conducted surveillance on a nuclear plant? Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) threatens
to sue Pollak for Congress for defamation

September 29, 2010

NILES, IL - Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has threatened to sue the Pollak for Congress campaign for defamation over a blog post written by 9th district Republican challenger Joel Pollak.

Pollak's blog post calls upon incumbent Democrat Jan Schakowsky to return campaign contributions she has received from the far-left J Street organization, which was recently revealed to be funded by foreign sources and George Soros.

The blog post also describes an antisemitic pamphlet that Pollak received at his campaign office. The pamphlet praises J Street, its executive director, and Rep. Kucinich (D-OH) for their opposition to Israel and to what the pamphlet alleges is a global Jewish conspiracy.

Pollak's blog post does not target Rep. Kucinich in any way, nor does it assert or imply that he or his campaign created or authorized the pamphlet.

Pollak shrugged off the threat. “They have no case. Rep. Kucinich ought to confront the author of the antisemitic pamphlet directly.”

Was Alexi just carrying out the garbage?

At the Gianoulias family Broadway Bank? You know, the failed bank that made loans to now convicted felon Tony Rezko and assorted mobsters, the failed bank where he told voters he hasn't really worked since 2005 but told the IRS he worked in 2006 to get a hefty $2.7 million tax deduction?

Even as taxpayers picked up the tab for his failed family bank. Chicago Tribune:
Saying he left in 2005 gives Giannoulias maximum distance from the bank's questionable lending practices, the April takeover by federal regulators and other controversies such as a loan by the bank to convicted influence peddler Antoin "Tony" Rezko in early 2006.

But by reporting that he worked at least 500 hours at Broadway in 2006, Giannoulias was able to get a break that helped him avoid paying federal income tax for 2009.

Giannoulias said he has been clear that he left the "day-to-day" operations of the bank in September 2005 to prepare his first run for public office, but was on paid leave until May 2006 when he left completely to campaign full time for treasurer.
No wonder Alexi was dodging questions on his tax returns.

Alexi Giannoulias. He talks out of both sides of his mouth. Fast and Loose Alexi Giannoulias. Ludicrous. More:
Giannoulias, who ran for state treasurer by touting his financial experience, has said that when he left Broadway, it was in sound fiscal shape. He also said he had very little to do with $20 million in controversial loans the bank approved between 2004 and September 2005 to a pair of men with criminal histories while he was a senior loan officer at Broadway.
He's still hanging out with shady characters.

In his standard stump speech Alexi bashes nameless others as failed, reckless and greedy. Is he talking about himself?

Kick Alexi out of public office for good, Illinois. He's done a lousy job as Illinois Treasurer and now he wants to go to Washington to keep spending and raising our taxes--recklessly. Proft noted that to be chosen at the ballot box, candidates for mayor must maintain a city residence for one year.

The issue, if unresolved, stands to haunt Emanuel for months if his residency status is appealed by a challenger.
Really, would you want Rahmbo lurking in your basement?

More. WaPo:
The one-time congressman needs to convince Chicago voters he's not just a Washington big shot with a reputation for ruthless politics, but still one of them.

"There is nothing in his history to show he wanted to be mayor or that this was his dream job. J Street's Disgrace

It's an issue in the Illinois 9th Congressional District: Pollak to Schakowsky:"Give back the J Street cash!":
"J Street, which opposes Israel at every opportunity, has been forced to admit that it takes money from George Soros and overseas donors," Pollak said. "Jan Schakowsky is one of the top recipients of J Street cash--roughly $50,000 as of June and perhaps twice as much overall."
TAS: J Street's Deception

And TWS:
The liberal lobbying group J Street, which has operated under the pretense of being pro-Israel, has really taken a hit in the last week. Eli Lake of the Washington Times uncovered that, despite J Street’s longstanding insistence to the contrary, the group has received significant funding from financier George Soros and his children. Additionally, the same report revealed that J Street received $811,967, from a woman named Consolacion Esdicul, a resident of Happy Valley, Hong Kong and an associate of Bill Benter, a hugely successful international gambler.
Jan Schakowsky is on the House Intelligence Committee. Didn't she do any due diligence?

But she thinks Joel Pollak is scary.

SEIU Material Support for Terror, Vote Fraud, Steals from Members?

Our President Barack Obama's favorite union, the SEIU, the ACORN twin, is engulfed in a firestorm. But if you just read the MSM you'd never know.

We have the PC media repeatedly burying a key fact in the Chicago FBI raid on "anti-war activists". An SEIU union steward is front and center in an investigation of providing material support for terrorists overseas (and here?) With the backdrop of the incident at O'Hare, an attempted attack in front of a popular bar near the Cubs' Wrigley Field, and the perpetrator expressing hopes to murder Mayor Daley, nothing to see here.

The terror tempo rises in Chicago, the US and now we learn, Europe. This SEIU steward, Joe Iosbaker and his wife are also members of Barack Obama's radical New Party, instrumental in his rise to power. Even the Kennedys have had enough--Bill Ayers, Barack Obama's political godfather, was denied U of I emeritus status in the middle of this timeline. Why? The stated reason was his book dedication years ago to Sirhan Sirhan, the murderer of U of I board of trustee chairman Chris Kennedy's dad, RFK. Perhaps it was really just a few old books and postcards. Nothing to see here.

In Houston a former SEIU official is revealed by a citizens group of engaging in massive voter registration fraud. The day after authorities launch an investigation Houston's voting machines are destroyed by a 3-alarm fire.

And the President's top visitor to the White House, the recently resigned leader of the union he chose to furtively convey his wishes on his old Senate seat to Blago, is now under investigation for financial scandal and corruption.

But there's nothing to see here.

FBI Target Got Govt. Grants, FBI Invites in Hamas Operative (!?)

A very incomplete report here by ABC7, no mention of the occupation of the individuals charged and of their alleged trips overseas. Excellent piece by ABC7's Chuck Goudie:
As executive director of the Arab American Action Network in Chicago, Mr. Abudayyeh is a well-known advocate for immigrant rights. When federal officers raided his North Side home last week, along with residences in Minneapolis, they were looking for funding links between Abudayyeh and the radical Islamic group Hamas that took power in the Gaza Strip three years ago.

Even as Abudayyeh is under investigation by a federal grand jury, city of Chicago records obtained by the ABC7 I-Team show that his Arab American Action Network has received thousands of dollars in city grants: as much as $457,000 since 1998. According to city officials, the money was intended for an after-school program for high-risk students who struggle with English.

Of course. No questions asked.

But what about this other story on the site, supposedly unrelated. Bridgeview rang a bell (scroll down), then I just happened to check my email and a friend sent in this link at Big Peace: FBI Escorts Known Hamas Operative Through Top-Secret National Counterterrorism Center as “Outreach” to Muslim Community

Is this nuts or what. Let's look at other Chicago coverage.

CBS2. Still the old postcard to girlfriend story:

The agents said they were looking for evidence relating to terrorist activity. But Iosbaker and Weiner said the government targeted them because they've been outspoken against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and U.S. funding of conflicts abroad.

"We all know what it was about, was that we were marching; we were organizing," Weiner said.

Iosbaker and Weiner say the government confiscated boxes that contained only old family pictures and love letters.
No mention of the SEIU nexus.

Nor the Sun Times. Minimal story.

Tribune/AP. No mention of SEIU.
Search warrants and subpoenas indicate authorities are looking for connections between the activists and groups including the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Hezbollah. The U.S. government considers those groups to be terrorist organizations.

Among the speakers in Chicago were two activists whose home was raided, Joe Iosbaker and his wife, Stephanie Weiner.

"We will not be intimidated," Iosbaker told the crowd, with people cheering in response.

Iosbaker told the crowd FBI agents had gone through everything in their home, including their music collection and their sons' school notebooks.
Expanded beyond the old girlfriend postcards. The music collection might be toxic though.

Our President Barack Obama is showing up again in Wisconsin. WaPo:

The students on this leafy, generally liberal campus once constituted one of the strongest battalions in Obama's grass-roots army. Two years later, the political dynamic has changed. Across campus, stickers, signs or chalkings for any politician are scarce. The laundromat where Obama's young volunteers once staged late-night phone banks and planned bus trips to neighboring Iowa has gone out of business. And some students who say they voted for Obama in 2008 now say they don't even know who's on the ballot this fall.
Clearly Feingold's getting a bit long in the tooth. More:

In the weeks since classes began, Organizing for America says it has recruited more than 60 new campus volunteers and identified 16 dorm captains to turn out the student vote. So far, about 800 students have signed pledge cards committing to vote. But that's a far cry from two years ago, when 17,000 students packed the basketball arena to hear Obama exhort, "Let's go change the world!"

Dan Grandone, the group's Wisconsin state director, said it's an unfair comparison. "It's hard to compare apples to oranges," he said. "This is like apples to maybe a vegetable.

Oprah Finds a New Superman, or Two

"The difference between going to college or going to jail". Worlds Collide: Chris Christie Meets Oprah Obama Ed. Secretary Arne Duncan pipes in via remote.

In our President Barack Obama's hometown of Chicago, a story on charter schools:
Charter students typically log two more hours per day than traditional public schools, which advocates say provides an edge. Of the top 10 nonselective Chicago high schools with the highest ACT scores, seven are charters, according to state data.
...while the Illinois legislature continues to keep the numbers capped:

Charter public schools significantly increase their students’ chances of graduating high school. Indeed, the state’s largest charter school, Chicago International Charter School, graduates 90.4 percent of its students—better than students in the suburbs and downstate Illinois, who graduate at a rate of 83 percent. Charter schools, in short, are doing their job – while much of the public school system is not.
We encourage the legislature to do the following:

  • Lift the cap on charter schools in Chicago and statewide, before it again hinders the growth of charter schools in the city.
  • Reform the charter school authorization process to allow more innovative schools in districts throughout Illinois.
Waiting for Superman around the country.

Oprah was one of the biggest supporters of The One. Perhaps she's seeing through him now. I guess she's giving Arne Duncan a pass, even though the former head of CPS can't lift up Chicago and Illinois. Race to the top flop. Unions 1, kids zero.

In contrast, a real impetus for change.

This is not the most important issue for America right now. It's jobs and the economy. But as we know, teachers unions are one of the big drivers of the public private pay and benefits gap which is bankrupting our country. And others in the labor movement are increasingly becoming unhinged. We need Superman. Or Batman:)

Pinkos Protest: FBI Confiscates Postcard from Old Girlfriend

In Jefferson Park, neighbors saw FBI agents carrying boxes from the apartment of community activist Hatem Abudayyeh, executive director of the Arab American Action Network. In addition, Chicago activist Thomas Burke said he was served a grand jury subpoena that requested records of any payments to Abudayyeh or his group.

"The warrants are seeking evidence in support of an ongoing Joint Terrorism Task Force investigation into activities concerning the material support of terrorism," said Steve Warfield, spokesman for the FBI in Minneapolis, where six additional homes were searched Friday.

Warfield said no arrests had been made and that there was no "imminent danger" to the public.

Ross Rice, an FBI spokesman in Chicago, gave the two Chicago blocks where agents had searched homes Friday, but he declined to name the targets.

Melinda Power, an attorney for Weiner and Iosbaker and a longtime friend, said agents took about 30 boxes of papers dating to the 1970s, including a postcard from an old girlfriend of Iosbaker's.

The radical left in this town over time became part of the establishment. Barack Obama is the happy face of that.

Is it all unraveling now? Ha. We'll see.

Get your revolutionary lemonade with a twist of terror

Michael Yon is in Afghanistan again where we are helping open a school for girls, despite attacks.

Back home, naive or otherwise lefties, among them educators, an SEIU union steward, community organizers and the executive director of the Arab American Action Network (where is Fatima Mohammadi) are the subject of an FBI raid in the Twin Cities and Chicago [story has since been updated]:
As news of the raid spread around the neighborhood, friends and fellow activists gathered outside the house and several sang John Lennon's, "Give Peace a Chance."

"These people have been activists all their lives," said Bob Hearst, who said he was a family friend. "I can't imagine why the FBI would have any interest in them."

Power said that the couple has been active in a variety of causes, including pro-union activism.

From outside the couple's home, there was little sign of their political activism. A plaque embedded by the front door included a pitch for an online store, "Revolutionary Lemonade Stand," with the couple's address listed as the contact. Among the items sold on the website are shirts that say, "Help Wanted Revolutionaries" and a sign that reads, "Neighborhood Watch Against Police Brutality."
Chicago is hopping these days.

At the UN Iranian President Ahmadinejad may finally have gone too far, suggesting 9/11 was an inside job. Our president Barack Obama huffed and puffed.

The Ahmadinejad parallel universe.

When will the not so revolutionary Kool-Aid drinkers figure out what's at stake?

Some thoughtful words from an Egyptian scholar in Germany. Is Islam about to collapse?

We can't count on it. Those Muslims who only wish to live in peace are being terrorized even as we are by the sharia supremacists who dominate most Muslim countries.

Hunter's Coup at the NY Times?

My spouse tells me at the brunch table the NY Times has three stories on hunting. The not so slow food movement, or slow after they're shot. Heirloom veggies not enough to soothe the inner man?

A Winged Symbol, but With More Than One Meaning
...coo-Hoo, coo-coo-Coo.

In Iowa, that is officially the call of a songbird, and the mourning dove is protected. In Michigan the hunting of mourning doves was banned, reinstated for a single season, then banned again after a statewide referendum. But hunters in 41 other states — including Wisconsin, where the bird is the officially designated symbol of peace — have made the mourning dove the most popular game bird in the United States.

“You need a gun, a box of shells, the necessary permits and, if you want to get really fancy, a five-gallon bucket to sit on,” said John H. Schulz, a wildlife research biologist for the Missouri Department of Conservation. “It’s inexpensive, it’s easy and it’s a great gateway to hunting.”

Though I've never had 'em, I hear they're good eats. And it's a way to put food on the table.

Hunting Losing Battle for Youth’s Attention

Like Great-Great-Great-(Etc.)-Grandpa Did It

Oops, four. Working to Keep a Heritage Relevant:

Mr. Frampton serves on a new federal advisory board intended “to help promote and preserve America’s hunting heritage for future generations,” in part by drawing in more youths and women.

While declining interest and shrinking wildlife habitat may be the main threats to the pastime, hunting and gun groups are worried by the occasional efforts to restrict it, like the ban on mourning dove hunting in Michigan that was promoted by animal rights advocates.

South Carolina is one of four states, along with Arizona, Arkansas and Tennessee, that will vote this fall on adding the right to hunt and fish to their constitutions. Ten states already have such provisions, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Has the NY Times been taken over by the Tea Party movement?

I think they're really worried about what they consider sin tax revenue, though.

...and perhaps a glimmer as to why Dems are headed to stinging defeat this fall with their president who calls us bitter clingers.

P.S. Politico: Democrats fear Midwestern meltdown. Including Illinois. A harbinger of 2012.

P.P.S. The latest on Black Swans. Not in the gunsights.

Person we've never heard of before designated take me to your leader

I suppose it could be worse. It could be someone we have heard of.
BreakingNews When aliens land: UN to name Malaysian astrophysicist Mazlan Othman as first contact http://bit.ly/a9VyyM :
During a talk Othman gave recently to fellow scientists, she said: “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials.

"When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject. The UN is a ready-made mechanism for such coordination.”
The UN.
